Good ideas keep TV schedules full\, viewers engaged and production companies in business. But where do they come from?   \nWith an acute shortage of new development researchers\, it's more important than ever for the next generation of talent to find their feet in the world of unscripted development. Blending self-directed learning with live Zoom training\, followed by a 1-month industry placement\, this Unscripted: Development Researcher course will prepare you to hit the ground running in your first job as a Development Researcher.   \nLed by Development Executive and Series Producer\, Perjit Aujla\, the course focuses on the essential skills needed to work in development.  \nCourse content will cover creative and ideation skills needed to generate exciting programme ideas\, to editing and software skills needed to pitch them to commissioners. To support you in setting up sustainable development careers\, the content will include vital communication skills which employers are looking for\, and guidance on making yourself as employable as can be.  \nFollowing the course\, trainees who complete the training will be given a placement within the development team of an unscripted production company. Testing your new skills and knowledge in a real company environment will consolidate what you learn and get you some industry connections along the way!  \nUnscripted: Development Researcher is open to a total of 60 people and will run with three cohorts. On applying\, you will be asked to confirm your preference of dates and you are expected to be available for the duration of your chosen set.  \nWHO IS THE COURSE FOR?  \nThis course is aimed at those who want a career in unscripted and who:  \n\nAre 18+ and not in full-time education. \nHave approximately 2+ years of work experience in ANY industry. \nHave demonstrable interest in a career in development. \n\nYou do not need to have worked in TV or development before to apply for this course.  \nWe welcome applications for those looking to return to work following a career break.  \nThis course is free to attend.   \nTo ensure this training is accessible to the widest possible audience\, the training will take place online and outside of standard office hours. Keeping up with this independent work will enable participants to come to live sessions ready to be a part of the conversation!   \nWhile completion of tasks will be expected in advance of sessions\, participants will be able to do them at times to suit them!  \nLIVE ZOOM TRAINING\nLIVE ZOOM TRAINING   \nLive Zoom sessions have been scheduled outside of standard office hours and are designed to bring participants together with our expert training team for live learning and support.   \nParticipants will be expected to attend all of the sessions with their selected course to maximise learning.   \nPLACEMENT OUTLINE \nPLACEMENT OUTLINE  \nAll participants who complete the self-directed and classroom-based elements of the course will be eligible for a 1-month work placement within an unscripted development team. Blending self-directed learning with live Zoom training\, followed by a 1-month industry placement\, this Unscripted: Development Researcher course will prepare you to hit the ground running in your first job as a Development Researcher.   \nLed by Development Executive and Series Producer\, Perjit Aujla\, the course focuses on the essential skills needed to work in development.  \nCourse content will cover creative and ideation skills needed to generate exciting programme ideas\, to editing and software skills needed to pitch them to commissioners. To support you in setting up sustainable development careers\, the content will include vital communication skills which employers are looking for\, and guidance on making yourself as employable as can be.  \nFollowing the course\, trainees who complete the training will be given a placement within the development team of an unscripted production company. Testing your new skills and knowledge in a real company environment will consolidate what you learn and get you some industry connections along the way!  \nUnscripted: Development Researcher is open to a total of 60 people and will run with three cohorts. Alison is the author of Penguin published book\, The Freelance Bible and offers many workshops and training programmes to support freelancers. \nSophie Morgan \nShe is an experienced TV and multi-platform content creator\, screenwriter and development consultant with over twenty-years working as award-winning creative director\, commissioning editor and BAFTA-nominated producer. Working in the UK and US\, she has developed\, and exec produced hundreds of hours of TV content including Britain's Next Top Model\, RuPaul's Drag Race\, London Ink and Jade. \nIn 2021 she founded multi-platform ideation and development consultancy Pontariva Media with the aim of adding value to production companies\, multiplatform content studios and broadcasters like Channel 4 and Sky. They do this by helping them devise more ambitious\, omni platform content and find innovative ways to exploit IP\, use emerging technology and design new funding models.  \nShe also devises and delivers industry training on topics including Gen AI\, agile leadership\, industry diversification and best creative practice and runs regular workshops for ScreenSkills and Creative Enterprise as well as the NFTS and Warwick University. She chairs several industry panels for Broadcast's AI summits and is a neurodiversity advocate and mentor. She has written two novels and two screenplays for Sky and the BBC.  \n \nPerjit Aujla  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPerjit has 13+ years' experience in factual TV as an RTS award-winning Series Producer\, an Edit Producer and a former Head of Development. She has won commissions from Channel 4\, Channel 5 and worked on programming as diverse as a Joe Wicks series for 4OD to the Bafta-nominated Cbeebies series Maddie's Do You Know.\nBased in Leamington Spa\, Perjit is a champion of the regions\, producing and chairing local events on behalf of Women in Film and Television and RTS Midlands\, where she is also on the committee.
