Mission Accomplished is unique. It transforms creative entrepreneurs’ ideas into scaleable businesses. Led by a global thought leader in creative entrepreneurship, its team harnesses a rare mix of creative, academic and business experience to help transform creative concepts into business realities.

Mission Accomplished’s CEO, Alison Grade, spent 15 years working at senior level in many media companies – predominantly in international television and film production, rights management and strategy – but she also has formal academic training and is a Nesta-accredited Creative Enterprise Trainer.

Add to that mix that Alison is also an entrepreneur who has established her own businesses and it becomes clear why she is in such demand by many creative businesses as a consultant and non-exec.

Currently Alison owns Mission Accomplished, a consultancy offering training, mentoring and strategic advice to start-ups and established SMEs in the Creative Industries. In addition to Alison’s creative, academic and business skills and experience, Mission Accomplished draws on a wide network of creative enterprise trainers and academics to transform ideas into businesses and mentor the creatives of tomorrow.

Mission Accomplished

In addition to her wealth of media and business experience Alison is also a Visiting Fellow in the School of Media at Birmingham City University where she acts as consultant and has developed and delivered courses, modules and lectures for the BA and MA courses within the School.

Alison has extensive experience in providing one-to-one business support and workshops to both pre-start and existing Creative Industries SMEs through her work on a range of programmes with universities and institutions including the BBC Academy, Birmingham City University, Coventry University and Aston University.

To date she has assisted over 200 SMEs via these programmes.

During her career Alison has produced over 7,000 minutes of film and television with a combined spend of over £20m. She has worked on documentaries, animation, drama, feature films, factual and entertainment productions on both high and low budgets.
But that’s not all.

Alison has a wealth of experience on the commercial exploitation of intellectual property rights in media content across a wide range of platforms through distribution and licensing having sold TV formats globally and negotiating other licencing deals. In other words, Alison knows how to monetise content.

Her non-media experience includes founding Girls Angels, a motorcycle training school that specialised in training women – which she took from idea to profitable business to trade sale in under two years.

More recently she directed a highly successful business bringing hands-on media training into schools and has advised many other businesses – from startups to established, global players on media and marketing strategies.

Alison holds an MBA (Masters in Business Administration) from INSEAD (2001) and a Management Studies Degree from St John’s College, Cambridge (1992).

Alison currently splits her time between a young family in Birmingham, producing film and TV, several executive and non-executive directorships and is soon to publish a book on monetising creative ideas – and how to survive as a freelancer in the creative industries.

Alison Grade quickly understood my business better than I do and her advice transformed the way I plan for and get new work. Transformed.

Mentoring sessions with her were cathartic and entertaining, it was like working with a funny and trustworthy therapist. Yet she is also very specific and practical about what can be achieved.

So whether it was a small technical issue or a pie-in-the-sky fantasy of what I wanted to do, she approached it all with the same considered insight and just sheer cleverness. I’ve recommended her to friends, colleagues, and random people I pass in the street so now I want to recommend her to you.

When I was introduced to Alison I had what was simply an idea; with very little understanding on how to turn it into a reality.

Alison taught me how to fine-tune that idea. How to create detailed plans and treatments. She taught me all of the things that my potential clients would want to know, and the best way to communicate them. She taught me the best way to monetise my idea, and opened up new potential and avenues for growth and opportunity that I hadn’t even envisaged.

Above all she is able to guide you, whilst at all times encouraging you to help yourself, and put her teaching into action.

With the help of Alison, I learnt in 6 weeks what most people would learn in 6 months, maybe even longer. Alison does all this whilst at all times remaining totally professional, completely level headed and refreshingly realistic, and uses her wealth of experience to provide the best, most harmonious way to turn your idea into a reality.

Alison Grade: Hero-ette.

In recent years Alison has become such an influential figure in the way the studio thinks, delivers and presents itself, which I’m forever grateful for.

After undertaking an enterprise training scheme in 2015, which Alison mentored on, I found it not only extremely useful but inspiring and motivational also. She has the ability to share the same passion and enthusiasm that you do about your own business, and unlike most, can see goals to strive for fuelling a drive to progress and develop the business in a direction that’s (what you think) far beyond expectations.

She’s a forever friend of the studio and we cannot recommend her highly enough!

Alison was the first person who ever took the time to interrogate our values and our vision — as people, not just as a company. She was instrumental in helping us to reassess what we want and what we do on every level — from our day-to-day dealings with each other to the outward message we convey in everything from our work to our website.

Meetings with Alison are like a science laboratory. She provides the safe space to turn the microscope on yourself and to look closely at your core beliefs and processes — and then she gives you time to experiment, to challenge yourself by throwing new and ambitious elements into the mix, and to have the courage to embrace new ways of thinking and new approaches to working.

Our time with Alison paved the way for a major phase of organisational development — including the recruitment of our first Board and the complete refreshment of our business plan — and because of her, we were able to approach this period of change with much greater boldness and bravery than we could ever have found on our own.
