Training Course Information

This training course is part of the Create Central Skills Accelerator programme, made possible thanks to the support of the BFI, awarding National Lottery funding, and The West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA).

Aims of the Training

This film and TV fusion course is designed to support those with no background in film and/or TV to transition into the West Midlands screen industries.

To help you achieve these aims, Mission Accomplished, together with our partners BOA Stage and Screen Production Academy, will:

  • Deliver an industry-led training programme.
  • Prepare learners for the breadth of screen industries work in the West Midlands region, focusing on scripted and unscripted content.
  • Use practical workshops to explore the different production genres and processes involved in making unscripted and scripted content.
  • Work with learners to identify the role and pathway into the WM screen industries that best matches their skill set.
  • Support learners in understanding the freelance nature of the screen industries.
  • Prepare you to be ready to work at an entry level in the WM screen industries.
  • Provide networking and connecting opportunities with local screen industry companies and professionals.
  • Offer employability support, including CVs and interviews.
  • Provide ongoing employability support for six months following completion of the programme.


As a Learner, We Ask That You:

  • Be punctual.
  • Attend all training dates.
  • Complete all e-learning modules and/or independent study set by the tutors.
  • Record any independent study on the learning portal.
  • Make the best use of the training and opportunities provided by this course.
  • Meet all deadlines and produce work to a professional standard.

On successful completion of the training course, you will be invited to add yourself to our database of successful learners, which we share with our partners and potential employers to support you in your next steps.



Attendance

Punctuality and full attendance are expected throughout this course. We reserve the right to terminate your place on the course due to lack of attendance.

Should you have any concerns for yourself or any other participants during the training period, please report directly to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) – you will be given their details upon commencement of this course.

Learning Plan

The training programme consists of a combination of in-person production training, CV clinics, self-directed learning and industry accredited e-learning modules. You will be expected to complete work between production workshops. Computer facilities are available during the week to support you with this. The course is a total of 90 hours.

Course Outline: In-person training (70 hours)
Sessions will run from Saturday 7th June to Sunday 27th July, 2025.
Please note ongoing employability support for 6 months following the end of the course.
All sessions take place every Saturday and Sunday from 9:00–16:30

Learning outcomes - By the end of the training course, participants will:

Understand the various roles and production processes involved in:

  • Unscripted single-camera TV production
  • Unscripted studio/OB TV production
  • Scripted daytime drama production
  • Scripted high-end TV and film production
  • Recognise the differences and similarities between roles and working processes in scripted and unscripted production.
  • Have developed technical skills, knowledge and understanding to allow them to competently perform entry level roles within scripted and unscripted production.
  • Have secured the core professional employability and safety competencies required for employment in the sector.
  • Have identified their own goals and ambitions for working in the sector.
  • Have developed their own CV and professional freelance portfolio.
  • Understand how to work successfully as a freelancer.
  • Have developed a professional network of employers and near-peers that will lead to employment opportunities in the future.

This programme is made possible with the support of the BFI, awarding National Lottery funding, and The West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA).
